Measuring with Balance Scales

We used balance scales to weigh objects in the classroom.  We measured things like cubes, pencils, foam shapes, markers, and crayons.  We compared which objects were heavier.

Corey:  It was fun to do.  We measured a pencil and a crayon.  The pencil was heavier.  We measured a magnet and a cube.  The magnet was bigger and heavier.

Yara:  We measured the pen for the dry erase boards and a crayon.  Whenever we measured there was a line that was in the middle.  If it was even they were the same weight.  If it went to the side, whatever was on that side was heavier.

Marc:  We got a scale, and then we got materials.  We put the materials on the scale.  We saw which material will be heavier.  We measured scissors, markers, dry erase markers, and square foam shapes.

Mia:  We got a scale and measured a book and a pencil.  It was easy to measure them.

Alejandra:  If it's down it's heavy.  If it's up it's not heavy.

Mykaela:  The scissors are heavier and the marker is really lighter.

Sebastian:  When I put three pencils on one side of the measuring thing and a marker on the other side they both weighed the same.

Ben:  Scissors weigh more than a magnet.  We had a paper to do.  One side is the heavier one.  You circle it.  The other side is lighter.

Collin:  The scales are heavy to carry.  They are fun.  Me and my classmate were weighing scissors and stuff.

Felipe:  Even if it's bigger, sometimes the littler one weighs more.  We weighed a cube and a pencil.  The cube was smaller, but it weighed more.

  2. Great work. I liked how some of you took several pencils to equal a marker. Great thinking and comparing. That's thinking like a scientist!! I'm also so glad no one wanted to weigh me, because I would weigh more that a pencil. HaHa
