Roller Coasters

Roller coasters

Yara:
I like roller coasters because you get to make your own rollercoaster and you get to put your own marble in it.  You get to have partners with you.  We get to go outside and do it.

Ben:
I liked that I had fun making roller coasters.  The best part was when the marble went through the loop.

Collin:
Roller coasters are cool because you can roll the marbles down the pipe.

JaCorey:
Roller coasters are so fun.  The marble goes super fast because if you lift the tube up and the marble goes down, gravity is pulling it down.

Marc:
We made roller coasters at the park.  There was a lot of space to do the roller coasters, and it was fun.

Lizzy:
To make a roller coaster we put tape on the tubes to connect them.  Then we went outside with marbles to make it like a roller coaster.  My team went to the swings to make our roller coaster and the marble rolled down the tube.  We put a loop near the middle and we started the marble up at the top.

Mia:
How to Make a Roller Coaster
First you get a tube and a marble.  Then you could make a loop in the tube.  Then you could make the marble go through the loop.  If it doesn’t, you have to try it again.  Next, put another marble in the tube and let it go through the loop.  When the marble goes into the loop it will be easy to do it again.

Corey:
You have to start the marble at the top of the pipe and then the marble will go faster.  If you start the marble at the bottom of the pipe it won’t go.

Asia:
I like it when my marble slides down the roller coaster. I like it when my marble rolls down the tube and flies across the room.

Kynnedy:
We used tape to put the tubes together to make a roller coaster.  We went outside and put our tube down the straight slide.  Then I put my marble down the tube.  It worked!

Felipe:
The roller coaster needs a lot of speed for the marble to go through three loops.  Then, if that works you could try four loops.

Nina:
We put tape on two pipes to hold them together.  We tried making the marble go through a loopty-loop.  It didn’t work.  We tried doing it a different way by putting the loopty-loop farther down.  We put one of the pipes up.  We put the marble down on the pipe.  When we tried it again it worked.

Eric:
My favorite part of making roller coasters was when we put Asia’s jacket over the tube.  When the marble went down the tube it landed inside and went deep all the way to the back of her jacket.

Christian:
My Awesome Roller Coaster
First you get a marble and a tube with some tape.  Then you tape the tubes together.  After that you put some marbles on the tube.  Then the marbles roll down the tube to the bottom.

Alejandra:
When you are making a roller coaster you have to make sure that the tube is going down so you can send your marble down.  Then make sure somebody is there to grab the marble when it comes down.  Then you can make another roller coaster.

Mykaela:
My group and I put tape on the tubes and we put them together.  We put the marbles in the tubes and the marbles went down the slide.  We made a loopty-loop.  We tried to put the tubes around the swings but it didn’t work.

Presidents

Presidents' Day is next Monday, February 21.  We have been learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Sebastian
When Abraham Lincoln was a kid he worked on a farm.  His family moved to Indiana for a better life.  Abraham Lincoln helped cut down trees.  Abraham Lincoln lived in a log cabin.  Abraham Lincoln liked to read.  During the Civil War Lincoln was President.  Abraham Lincoln got shot in a theater.

Christian R
As a boy Abraham Lincoln worked and helped his father at a farm.  Then Abraham Lincoln taught himself about the law.  He decided to become a lawyer.  He gave great speeches.  People voted for him as President.  But people wanted slavery so the Civil War started.  Many people died.  But in the end Lincoln helped the North win the war and abolish slavery.  It was a week after the Civil War.  Lincoln went to the theater.  A man named John Wilkes Booth hated Lincoln for freeing the slaves.  Booth snuck into the theater and shot President Lincoln.  Lincoln died across the theater.  We will remember him by a penny and 5 dollar bill.  Good bye Abraham Lincoln and may you rest in peace like the other Great Presidents  and God.

Ben
Abraham Lincoln
He was an honest man who card for everyone!  He was 6 feet, 4 inches tall.  He was born in a log cabin.  He was President during the Civil War.  A girl told him he would look better with a beard.  He was born on February 12, 1809 and he freed slavery.  And he won the President election.  A few weeks after the Civil War he went to the theater and got shot. Winter Writing

Texas has had some crazy winter weather recently.  We wrote about what we did when we were out of school for almost a whole week.  We had lots of ice and some snow.

My New TV
By Ben

This isn’t any kind of TV.  It has internet on it.  This TV is a new kind of TV.  It is a VZO.  My mom bought it for 500 dollars.  It has a lot of channels.  It came in a big box.  The box was the same size as the TV.  In case I didn’t tell you, the TV is really big, too.  It has Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network, and that’s my new TV.

By Marc

My cousins and my big cousin kept knocking me down.  Then I got wet a lot.  I played snowball fight with my cousins.  I hit him in the face.  Then we got bored and went inside and played my Wii.

By Alejandra

When it was snowing I got dressed and cleaned up.  I went outside to play in the snow.  Then I told my dad if I can take the snow off his car.  He said yes, and I did. Then we were going in.  I had to change.

By Asia

On Wednesday my mom made hot cocoa for me and my sister, Keionna and my two friends.  On Friday, my mom told us we could play with the dress up clothes.  So me and my sister and my two friends played all day long.  On Tuesday we went to the store to buy A-Max Cash.  Then after that we went to go eat.

By Nina

The snow is deep.  My dog stayed in the garage. My sister and brothers went to play.

By Lizzy

The first thing I did was go outside and make a snowman and play snowball fight.  The second thing is go inside and drink hot chocolate and watch movies.  The movies were called Aliens in the Attic and the other movie was called Monsters Inc.  The fourth thing I did was go to my aunt’s house and eat chicken and played Sponge Bob Monopoly.

By Julian

During the snow days I made a snow fort.  I had a snowball fight.  Then I went inside for hot chocolate.  Then I went back outside.  We had a race on the ice.  We raced in trash cans down the ice.  It was fun.

By Allanah

During the snow day I had a snowball fight.  I built a snowman.  Then we all went inside for some hot chocolate.  The next day, we built a snow woman and a little snow boy.  My aunt came over on Friday and we had a snowball fight.  She helped me make a snow girl.

By Caitlyn C

During the snow days I played in the snow.  My fingers got numb.  So I went back inside with my cousin.  We put out feet and hands in the hot water.  Then we got hot cocoa or coffee.  Then we played checkers, Go Fish, Bingo, Crazy 8, and Tic Tac Toe Three in a Row.  We went to Build a Bear Workshop.  My favorite was when we went to the Cheesecake Factory.  Everyone came over to watch the Super Bowl.  It was a blast!

By Natalia

During the snow days I had a cookout.  My dad’s friends and him watched the football game while I was in my room playing  my X-Box.  Then my mom got home from work.  So me and my mom ate a hot dog.  Then I went to bed at 10:00.

By Tiana

During the snow days I went outside to play in the snow.  I even made a snowflake.  I also had a snowball fight and watched football.  But when the sun came out I played some more.  Then I went in the house.  Then the snow melted.

By Christian M

During the snow days I had a snowball fight with my dad and baby brother.  My and my baby brother were making snow angels, too.  I tackled my dad and he threw me up in the air. I jumped in the snow and my head stuck in the snow.

By Sydney

During the snow days I started my first dance class with Summer.  My teacher was a man instead of a woman like I suspected.  I celebrated Summer’s brother, Dakota’s 10th birthday at T.G.I. Friday’s.  I played in the snow with my sister, Ricki.  We had lots of fun in the snow.

Pencil Balancing

Balancing a pencil on the tip

Caitlin M: I put the wire on the pencil low and put the clips on the wire and then put the pencil on the popsicle stick and it never fell.

Alejandra: I needed a wire and clothes pins and I put one wire and two clothes pins on the end.

Lizzy: First I had to spin the wire around the pencil, then put the clips.  Then I put it on the clip.

Andrew: My teacher wrapped the pencil.  I did the rest.  I put the clips on the ends of the wire.  Then I balanced it.

We love Science.
The pencil balanced on our fingers.

The pencil also balanced on the edge of the table.

We write about our Science experiments.

Christmas Break

We hope you all enjoyed your time off from school.  Our teachers certainly did, but we missed our students.  Here is a peek at what each teacher did over the holidays.

Mrs. Walker:  I spent lots of time with family.  Sarah came home from college.  It was nice having her here for a while.  Son Daniel went shopping with me.  He drove to the store and helped carry bags into the house when we got home.  Deborah and son-in-law Daniel helped a lot with cooking.  We had lots of company to feed.  Eli was off work Christmas Day, so she could spend the day with family.  I love it when all of my kids are together.  We even got to spend time with Granddaughter Emma.  That's always fun.

Ms. Bishop: Over Christmas break I spent lots of time with my family and friends. My best friend Michelle has a new little baby that I spent time with and I got to give Ryleigh her first Christmas present ever. She really loved her pink and yellow Passy's I gave her! Chris and I also spent time planning our wedding for next year, we got a lot done. We know have a venue, photographer, DJ, and my dress! Now I just want December 10th to hurry up and get here. :) The best part of the break was being able to spend time with my family at home and just relax. I hope every had a wonderful break as I did.

Mrs. McLaughlin: Over the Christmas break my house was FULL of people.  My oldest daughter, Devin, was home from college.  Mr. McLaughlin’s parents came to visit us from California.  We did a lot of Wii bowling, played cards, and took a trip to New Braunfels, Texas.  We cooked and ate plenty of delicious food.  Being together with family is my favorite part of the holidays.

Miss Smith: I had a wonderful break! My fiance Evan and I drove all over the state since his family lives in east Texas and my family lives in south Texas. It was so great to get to spend time with family. Of course my two dogs were along for the ride! Evan's parents have 5 dogs and my parents have 4 so Nolan and Dos were very happy to see all their friends! I hope everyone had a great break and I would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2011!

Mrs. White: Over the break I got to spend A LOT of time with Vivian and Mr. White. Since both of our families live in Dallas we got to visit with all of them, it was fun speaking Spanish at my parents house and switching to English with his family. But my favorite part  was when Santa came to our house! Vivian got to hear Santa stomping on our roof and the reindeer's jingle bells. She was sooooooo excited but also reminded me that if we didn't go back to sleep Santa wouldn't leave presents for her. I had a GREAT vacation. What did you do?

Tuve unas excelentes vacaciones. ¿Tu qué hiciste?
