Leprechaun Traps

Myspace Graphics
Myspace Graphics, St. Patrick's Day Graphics at WishAFriend.com

We made Leprechaun traps and wrote about them.  We shared our traps and writing about them with our classes.  See what our very creative second graders created.

First I’d get all of the supplies like glue and some markers.  Second decorate the box with fake grass and glue it.  Third cut a hole. Then he falls where all of the gold is.  Next he gets trapped for good.  Then he will lead me to his gold.  Finally PS WHOOOOO!

First make a rainbow out of a box.  Second get a shoe box and color it green.  Third make a fake pot of gold.  Then make a trap with a net and wait for the leprechaun.  Trap the leprechaun in the net.  Finally the leprechaun can’t get out of the trap.

First get some makers and a box and a string a fake piece of gold and some scissors.  Second color the box green and tie the string to the box.  Third tie the other piece of the string somewhere else.  Next put the fake piece of gold in the box.  Then wait for a little bit.  Finally when he falls in cut the string and he can’t get out.

How to Make a Trap
By JaCorey

First, make a rainbow out of paper.  Second, decorate the box and put gold coins in it.  Third, if you have a net throw it on the leprechaun.  Next, get a cage if you have one.  Then, set the trap up and hide so the leprechaun can’t see you. Finally, Boom!!! The lid on the trap opened up. Now the leprechaun can get out.

First I get a box and I decorate the box.  Second, I get a hook and a rope and some tape.  When the leprechaun looks down and I will let go of the rope and I will get a pot of gold and when he says, "Hey, this isn’t gold coins. This is board that’s colored on."  I will laugh at him and let go of the rope.

Get a shoe box and get some tape.  Put gold beads in the box.  Make a ladder.  Put a stake to hold the box.  You write a sign that says “for Leprechauns.” The leprechaun runs in and the trap falls on him.

Measuring with Balance Scales

We used balance scales to weigh objects in the classroom.  We measured things like cubes, pencils, foam shapes, markers, and crayons.  We compared which objects were heavier.

Corey:  It was fun to do.  We measured a pencil and a crayon.  The pencil was heavier.  We measured a magnet and a cube.  The magnet was bigger and heavier.

Yara:  We measured the pen for the dry erase boards and a crayon.  Whenever we measured there was a line that was in the middle.  If it was even they were the same weight.  If it went to the side, whatever was on that side was heavier.

Marc:  We got a scale, and then we got materials.  We put the materials on the scale.  We saw which material will be heavier.  We measured scissors, markers, dry erase markers, and square foam shapes.

Mia:  We got a scale and measured a book and a pencil.  It was easy to measure them.

Alejandra:  If it's down it's heavy.  If it's up it's not heavy.

Mykaela:  The scissors are heavier and the marker is really lighter.

Sebastian:  When I put three pencils on one side of the measuring thing and a marker on the other side they both weighed the same.

Ben:  Scissors weigh more than a magnet.  We had a paper to do.  One side is the heavier one.  You circle it.  The other side is lighter.

Collin:  The scales are heavy to carry.  They are fun.  Me and my classmate were weighing scissors and stuff.

Felipe:  Even if it's bigger, sometimes the littler one weighs more.  We weighed a cube and a pencil.  The cube was smaller, but it weighed more.
